Reflexology – A Simple Health and Relaxation Routine

 - by admin

In order to really understand the basic principles behind reflexology one has to understand its origins which date back to early 2500 BC in countries like Egypt, Japan and China. Reflexology was accepted and recognized back then as therapeutic and a health and relaxation routine.

Reflexology is also known as “Zone” therapy that is based upon a notion which states that every body part is actually represented on the feet and hands and if pressure is put on certain specific areas on the hands and feet, it can have effects that are therapeutic in different parts of the body.

Proponents claim that:

Every organ of the body is actually represented on the feet and hands The human body is divided basically into ten longitudinal zones (five on both sides) The reflexologist can diagnose certain abnormalities in the body by feeling feet or hands Putting pressure or massaging areas can help in stimulating the energy flow, blood and nerve impulses to their corresponding body zones thus relieving the person from certain ailments in those particular zones.

Reflexologists do claim that reflexology relieves stress. Stress clues in a person’s feet are like roadmaps to them. They also claim that foot reflexology cleanses the body toxins, increase blood circulation, helps in weight loss and generally improves organ health. Others state that reflexology has helped in the treatment of anemia, bedwetting, earaches, infant convulsions, bronchitis, hiccups, hemorrhoids, deafness, emphysema, heart disease, hair loss, prostate trouble, kidney stones, overactive thyroid, liver trouble, cataracts, rectal prolapsed, hydrocephalus, and other conditions.

Many practitioners claim that a great many health problems are “stress-related” and can be treated if the stress is relieved. As reflexology is not recognized by the law there is no need for any formal training to practice it. It is seen as a treatment for stress related allergies, illnesses, back pains and other ailments that respond to “pressure-point” therapy like acupuncture and massages.

Many doctors agree that most of our health problems are linked to tension and nervous stress and therefore therapy like reflexology can improve blood supply and nerves. It helps to promote well-being and good health in the way diet programs and exercise do. Practice of reflexology should therefore be compared to manipulative procedures like massage and acupuncture.

Each reflex in the body is worked upon by a trained reflexologist. This helps to trigger the release of tension and stress in the body’s corresponding zone or area and at the same time make the body relaxed. Nerve impulses are unblocked and the blood supply to different parts of the body is improved by reflexology. The balancing effect it has on every organ, gland and area is undeniable.

Today there are shoe inserts, sandals, and other foot devices as well as a cover for the steering wheel that are based on the reflexology theory. However, these do not have any scientific testing and are not “medical” devices.

Precision reflexology is a treatment that is given without any force and is given to the client with great respect and concern. A holistic therapy in every way, it is beneficial and effective. Since over 70% of disorders are indirectly or directly related to stress and tension – like hypertension, insomnia, heart diseases, digestive disorders and others – people all around the world are choosing reflexology, which is non-invasive to cope with stress.
